Yorkshire Ambulance control called at 14-45 on the 15th January to ask us help Rescue a lady who had fallen on Roseberry. Being so near to Roseberry we were on scene in about 15 minutes and with the help of the Air Ambulance Doctor rendered casualty care to the lady. She was a fell runner and had slipped in the wet muddy conditions and given herself several injuries. We carried the lady on our stretcher to the waiting Air Ambulance, which took her to James Cook Hospital. There were 23 of us on this Incident which lasted an hour and a half. We also managed to get the services of Scarborough Team Leader and their Secretary who were in the area and turned up to help. Thanks Scarborough! Personal Locator Beacons for Land Use heralds in a new era of safety for outdoor enthusiasts
The start of 2012 has seen a significant development for the emergency services involved in ‘search and rescue activity’. From the 12th January onwards Personal Locator Beacons are now legal for use on land. Personal Locator Beacons which can be the size of a mobile phone are already commonly used by people involved in flying and maritime activity. In an emergency when some-one using a PBL activates the beacon it then transmits unique identification information and provides data about the position of the beacon.
