February got off to a flying start when North York's Police rang at 02-24 on the morning of 2nd February. They had had a report of a male in difficulties in woodland in the Sutton Bank area, and asked for our assistance. We spent over 4 hours searching forestry and footpaths by foot and Land Rover but found nothing. As nobody had been reported missing by 06-30 when we had finished our search we were able to stand down. We went home for breakfast! There were 27 of us on this one including our SARDA dog and the Incident lasted 4 and a half hours.
North York's Police called at 19-00 on the 31st January to ask for our help with a walker. He was on the moor somewhere above Battersby and had recently 'phoned a relation to indicate that he was unsure how to get down to Battersby. The relation had 'phoned the Police with the news, and as the walker had been out all day and it was freezing hard, they alerted the Team. After a small search along with Cleveland Police chopper we located the walker who was on a train currently pulling into Battersby. This was also our location along with the County Ambulance and Police. The man was thoroughly checked over by the Ambulance crew and later given a lift home by the Police. You could say it was good 'training' for the Team! There were 24 of us on this one which lasted an hour and a quarter.
Yorkshire Ambulance control called at 14-45 on the 15th January to ask us help Rescue a lady who had fallen on Roseberry. Being so near to Roseberry we were on scene in about 15 minutes and with the help of the Air Ambulance Doctor rendered casualty care to the lady. She was a fell runner and had slipped in the wet muddy conditions and given herself several injuries. We carried the lady on our stretcher to the waiting Air Ambulance, which took her to James Cook Hospital. There were 23 of us on this Incident which lasted an hour and a half. We also managed to get the services of Scarborough Team Leader and their Secretary who were in the area and turned up to help. Thanks Scarborough! The Incident was a good example of the seamless co-operation between ourselves and the Air Ambulance.
At 11-45 on the 11th January Cleveland Police asked for our assistance. A body had been found at the base of the sea cliffs in Saltburn and the Police asked if we would search the cliff top for personal belongings. There being no life at risk we made this a voluntary Call Out. There were 8 of us who volunteered, however as we were about to deploy the Police asked us to stand down indicating that the Coast Guards would do the job.
On Sunday 8th January at 1500 we got our first Call Out of the New Year. It came from Ambulance Control and was to go to the Rescue of a lady walker who had slipped in the woods and sustained a lower leg injury. We quickly found the lady and treated her. There was then a short carry to our Land Rover into which she was loaded and we gently drove out of the woods, and in this instance, took her all the way to James Cook Hospital in the Land Rover. There were 22 of us on this one which lasted an hour and a quarter.
Cleveland Police called us at 19-45 on the 15th December to ask for help with a missing despondent. We responded, but on arrival at the RV we learnt the good news that the missing person had turned up alive and well. There were 15 of us on this one along with our search dog.
25 November 2011 at 5.30pm. The Team were called by our neighbouring Mountain Rescue Team to work together with them (Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team) to a rescue in Ampleforth. A tree had fallen on to the casualty causing injury. Initially it was unclear which Team could assist most quickly so both responded as the location was at the extremity of both teams areas. Rest assured that the Moors are a safe place with two teams ready to respond! As it turned out the casualty was rescued by RAF Sea King helicopter and most of the Cleveland Team were 'stood down' before reaching the village.
18 Cleveland Team members responded the incident lasted just over an hour.
Sunday 13th November, the record number of 46 call outs in the year didn't last long. The Team were called just before 2pm to rescue a lady who had slipped whilst walking down a slippery moorland path from the col between Gold Moor and Live Moor above Faceby. A lower leg fracture needed a gentle evacuation and without a helicopter available and low cloud cover meant a long carry over the moors towards the Glider Station on Carlton Bank, a journey in our Landrover Ambulance to the road and a transfer to the road ambulance. 18 members on this call out (including 2 from our sister team Scarborough & Ryedale MRT) which lasted 2 hours 30 minutes.
At 21-35 on the 9th November, Scarborough MRT asked for our assistance with the search for a missing moorland forestry worker in the Glaisdale Rigg area. On arrival at the RV we were informed that an RAF Sea King had located the missing person on the moor and was evacuating to a place of safety. The worker was unhurt and had become benighted in his machine. A happy end to what was for Cleveland Team the Call Out to break all previous records. There were 22 of us on this one which lasted an hour and a quarter
Cleveland Police rang at 18-00 on the 6th November to ask for our help in locating a missing despondent. After several hours of searching we made a find, sadly fatal. There were 28 of us including our search dog on this one. The Incident lasted six and a half hours.
North East Ambulance Control asked for our help with a crashed mountain biker. The call came on the 3rd November at 20-09. We soon located the biker, and with the aid of our Team Doctor and para medics treated him before we loaded him into our Land Rover. He was then transported to the road where there was a waiting County Ambulance. There were 21 of us involved and the Incident lasted an hour and ten minutes.
Ambulance control Yorkshire contacted us at 12-10 on the 2nd November to help with an injured walker. A lady had broken her ankle descending slippery steps into Gribdale. We quickly located her and carried her a short distance to the County Ambulance. There were 13 of us on this one which lasted an hour.
Sunday 30th October - Called to rescue a dog,Alfie the Labrador, that had fallen from the edge of the moor down Roulston Scar, Sutton Bank.
The cliff which is close to the landmark "White Horse of Kilburn" varies in height, the young Black Labrador appears to have fallen about 15 metres on to steep ground below the crag. The owner had managed to find and scramble upto his injured dog but needed help.
Members of the Mountain Rescue Team approach across the Yorkshire Gliding station runways and rigged a lowering system to safely evacuate the dog down to the forestry track below, then by 4x4 to a waiting Skeldale vet in the White Horse car park; before continuing to the Vets Surgery in Thirsk (the Skeldale veterinary practice is the one of "James Herriot" fame).
There were 9 members on this Call Out which lasted 2 hours 15 minutes.', Update - Archie was due to undergo surgery for his broken leg on Tuesday - hopefully he will soon be fit again. Click the YouTube link on our Home page, view all our videos and you can see a few photos of how it happened.
Cleveland Police asked for our help with a vulnerable in the Eston Hills area. The call came at 10-30 on the 27th October The vulnerable was located and we were stood down. There were 17 of us on this one which lasted 2 hours.
This came on the 25th October at 18-30 from Ambulance Control. It was to help Rescue a dog walker who had slipped and fallen in a ditch sustaining arm injuries. There were 15 of us who responded in torrential rain. The Incident lasted a couple of hours.
8th October 2011. A call for help came to the rescue Team at about 12 noon to assist a 42 year old crashed mountain biker near to Hutton Village. The Team liaiased with the ambulance service to quickly locate and treat the injured cyclist. He was transported in a Team vehicle to rendezvous with the air ambulance however, due to the adverse weather conditions this couldn't fly so he was transported to James Cook Hospital by road ambulance.

24th September 1515hrs
North Yorkshire Police phoned to ask us to help with some sheep that were down a ravine near Old Byland near Helsmley.
When we arrived we found that around 30 sheep had fallen into a pothole type void referred to as a Windy Pit and had ended up about 50 feet down the cave. We assisted 3 members of The North York Moors Caving Club to haul a number of the sheep out of the cave. Unfortunately a dozen or so had been killed in the fall. The incident was caused by the fencing around the entrance been disturbed.
The incident lasted 2 and a half hours and involved 7 members.
At 1.55pm we were called by our Training Officer who had found a 70 year old man in difficulties on the path descending from Live Moor towards Huthwaite. The Training Officer had been about to place our practice 'casualty' in the precise spot that was now occupied by our real casualty. (Incident 36 and the training exercise were still on-going but the training excercise was about to come to an abrupt end). Within seconds a Landrover Ambulance was en-route from Carlton Bank to Huthwaite Green, with our Doctor and others, followed by more members in 4 vehicles. They carried the man down on our Mountain Rescue 'Bell' stretcher for about a kilometre to an Ambulance. The Air Ambulance had been alerted and was airborne but was 'stood down' as the casualty was by this time safely in a road Ambulance.
The Call Out lasted about 1 hour and involved 18 team members.
At 1.30pm on 10 September 2011 the team were training around Carlton Bank when a mountain biker came to say he needed help for a friend who had crashed on the side of Cringle Moor. Within minutes one of our Rescue Team Doctors, paramedics and other team members were assessing his injuries and giving pain relief (lots of pain relief). He was then evacuated in one of the Teams Landrover Ambulances to hospital, but before the vehicle reached the road we had received Call Out number 37.
Cleveland Search and Rescue Team received a call from Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team (T&WSMRT) on Friday 2nd September to ask for our help the next day with a search for a missing person. Just before we set off on the Saturday morning T&WSMRT rang to tell us that the missing person had turned up alive and we were not needed - we were "stood down". There were 15 Cleveland Team members about to go on this Call Out. Leaving the rest of the Team to be ready to respond in case we had a Call Out in our home patch on the North York Moors and surrounding areas.
Wednesday 31st August a work day call out for most Team members - North York's Police called the Cleveland Team and asked us to continue a search started by the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team the day before.
SRMRT (www.srmrt.org.uk) needed to rest their members so needed help to continue the search. "Needed a rest" you may ask. They had been out searching all of the previous night and so we took over from them.
We spent 6 hours searching the area around Whitby. The good news is that the missing person was spotted by a member of the public who alerted the emergency servies who took care of them. There were 17 Cleveland Team members on this Call Out together with a dog and handler from SARDA England (SARDA England is the Search and Rescue Dog Association).
North York's Police contacted us to help in the search for a vulnerable person in the Sandsend area. We called in Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team to help us and along with Coastguards spent four and a half hours searching. Shortly after we were 'stood down' by the Police the vulnerable presented himself to the Police. There were 16 of Cleveland Team members on this Call Out and 18 from S&RMRT
North York's Police contacted us at 17-57 on the 20th August and asked us to repond to distress whistle blasts in the Scugdale area. We found a tired walker who had become separated from his party, and escorted him to safety. There were 17 Cleveland Team members on this Call Out which lasted 2 hours.
Teesdale Team asked us to help them in the search for a missing farm worker. This came at 09-00 on the 18th August. We spent 8 hours assisting Teesdale and Durham Police. There were 14 of us on this one.
On the 15th August at 21-09 NEAS Ambulance Control called us to go to the help of people stuck in a muddy ravine on cliffs at Skinningrove. We attended and stood by whilst the RAF Sea King winched the party to safety. There were 15 of us and the Incident lasted just under an hour.
At 13-15 on the 29th July, North York's Police contacted us to do an urgent search for a 7 year old missing in the Gribdale area near Gt Ayton.
He had wandered away from his party and was missing in forestry. As we were on our way, the Police contacted us to say the lad had turned up alive and well. There were 10+ on this Incident which lasted 19 minutes.
Scarborough Team soon repaid us for Incident 27 by calling us out to help them with a search. It came at 11-30 on the 28th July and was to search for a missing fell runner in the Goathland area. As we arrived at the RV the runner who had been missing several hours, turned up alive and well and we were stood down. There were 11+ of us on this one which lasted a couple of hours.
North York's Police called us at 18-30 on the 26th July to ask us to respond to reported distress whistle blasts in Farndale. We called in Scarborough Team to help and an RAF Sea King to rapid search and for deployment. In the event it was a local game keeper who was whistling his birds for their feed. False alarm, good intent. There were 17 of us, and 11 of Scarborough on this one which lasted two and a half hours.
North York's Police called at16.15 on the 4th July to ask us to go to the Rescue of a crashed glider. The original RV given for the Incident was Lord Stones, but we and the Fire Service soon located the glider several miles away near Appleton Wiske. We, along with the Fire Service deployed there and assisted in the evacuation of the pilot to the Air Ambulance. There were 20 of us on this one which lasted an hour and 34 minutes.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service called us later the same day at 17.06 to go to the Rescue of an elderly man in the Lion Inn Blakey Ridge area. Ten of us responded and stood by whilst the Air Ambulance evacuated the man to hospital. The Incident lasted just over an hour.
Stokesley Police asked us to search for a young lad missing in Stokesley. This came at 15.41 on the 25th June. As we were on our way there the Police rang to say the lad had turned up and all was well. There were 10 + on way to this Incident
We were called by NEAS ambulance control to help a mountain biker who had come to grief in Guisborough Forest, near Highcliff farm. After 15 minutes of searching the forestry tracks with 4x4s the injured 29 year old was located in a different part of the forest, quckly treated and dispatched to hospital.
18 of us were involved for 90 minutes.
This came from Ambulance Control at 22-15 0n the 11th June. it was to Rescue a young lad in the Loftus area. He had been swinging on a rope attached to a tree. The rope failed and on landing he hurt his back. We located him and carried him to the County Ambulance. There were 12 of us on this one, which lasted a couple of hours.
This came the next day from Ambulance Control. It was to go to the Rescue of a dog walker who had slipped on steep ground in the Errington Woods area. After we 'opened' a gate for the Ambulance this became a simple Rescue, and we carried the walker a short distance to the Ambulance. There were 14 of us on this one with more coming. The Incident lasted 45 minutes.
This came at 15-00 on the 3rd June from North York's Police. They had been informed that walkers on the old railway near Blowarth were in difficulties. We made the RV the Lion and set about looking for the walkers. Eventually we found that they had made it to the Lion and all was well. There were 12 of us on this one which lasted an hour and 15 minutes.
This came at 20-50 on Tuesday 17th May from Cleveland Police. It was to go to the Rescue of a crashed mountain biker in the Hutton Village forestry area. We located the biker, rendered cas care and transported him in a stretcher in one of our Land Rovers to the County Ambulance. There were 23 of us on this one which lasted an hour.
Later the same day at 12-00 we were asked to search the Great Ayton/Roseberry Topping area for a missing person who had indicated that he would harm himself. We spent over 6 hours on this one together with 2 SARDA dogs from Northumberland and 1 from Teessdale with negative result. There were 23 of Cleveland Team, Cleveland Police chopper, 3 SARDA dogs and North Yorks Police involved.
Ambulance Control called us at 09-56 on the 7th May to help carry a crashed mountain biker in the Eston Hills area to the Air Ambulance. On our way there we were stood down as they had manages somehow to get the casualty to the Air Ambulance.. There were more than 10 responding and the Incident lasted 15 minutes.
Later the same day at 16-32 Ambulance Control rang to ask for our help with a lady who had fallen in the forestry surrounding Cod Beck reservoir near Osmotherley. We located the lady who had broken her ankle, and carried her to the waiting County Ambulance. There were 19 who responded on this one which lasted an hour and 48 minutes.
The next day at 12-05 Ambulance Control rang to ask for help with a collapsed walker on Roseberry Topping. We located the man, rendered cas care and carried him to the Air Ambulance which had landed near the summer house. There were 14 of us on this incident which lasted an hour and ten minutes.
This Rescue came at 21-10 on the 30th April from Ambulance Control. it was to go to the Rescue of a youth who had fallen from a tree and broken his leg. We located the lad, out him in our Land Rover and transported him to the County Ambulance. There were 22 of us on this one which lasted an hour.
Whilst on a course with Teesdale Team in Barnard Castle on 20th April, 4 members assisted Teesdale Team with a Rescue Call out to Cauldron Snout. The Incident lasted an hour.
A Team member alerted us at about 11-33 on Saturday the 23rd April, with the news that there was an elderly man in difficulties on Roseberry Topping. We located the man, who was suffering from heat exhaustion, rendered cas care, carried him down to one of our Land Rovers and onward to the waiting County Ambulance. The man received further attention from our Doctor and the Ambulance crew before he was allowed to go home. There were 22 of us on this one which lasted n hour and a half.
We were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Control at 12-30 on the 21st April. it was to go to the Rescue of a youth who had fallen in felled forestry on Easby Moor, sustaining suspected back and spinal injuries. We located the youth and with the help of the Leeds Bradford Air Ambulance evacuated him to James Cook hospital. There were 18 of us on this one which lasted an hour and a half.

This call came from north York's Police. It was to search for a missing man in the Staithes area. Along with Scarborough Team, a SARDA dog, a police chopper and a Sea King along with the Coast Guards, we spent 8 hours searching with negative result. We understand the man was later found by the lifeboat in the sea.

10 April 2011 10.00hrs
This call came the next day from Cleveland Police. It was a pre planned
search of a quarry in Hartlepool for a man who had been missing for several
weeks. We searched a hazardous derelict site for a couple of hours but found no trace of the missing person.

8nd April 2011 23.00 hours
This call came from North York's Police. It was to search for a missing man in the Ellerby area near Runswick Bay. The man had failed to return home after taking his dog for a walk, but the dog had returned. On our way to the RV the Police contacted us to say that the man had turned up alive and well.
We were stood down.
The Incident lasted about 30 minutes with 15 of us on route.
2nd April 2011 19-30 hours
This call came from North York's Police and it was to search for an overdue Fell Runner between Blakey Crossing and Clay Bank. As we were arriving at the RV the missing runner 'phoned to say she was safe and in a farm in Bilsdale.
Arrangements were made to pick her up and we were stood down.
There were 15 team members on this call which lasted approx 50 mins

This call came from Cleveland Police. It was to help in the search for a missing person in the High Cliff area of Guisborough Woods. With the help of Cleveland Police's chopper we soon made a find, we then rendered some casualty care and carried the female down to the County Ambulance.
There were 20 team members on this call which lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes.
6th March 2011 13-35
This call came direct from the Leeds Bradford Air Ambulance who were attending an incident to help a collapsed walker near Carlton Bank Top. Team members and the Air Ambulance crew battled to save the collapsed man but unfortunately this turned out to be a fatality. We organised the evacuation in conjunction with North York's Police.
There were 21 of us on this one which lasted nearly 3 hours

This call came from North York's Police. It was to search for a missing elderly vulnerable in the Northallerton area. As we were about to deploy our search parties the Police reported that he had turned up alive and well. We were stood down.
There were 15 of us on this Incident which lasted an hour and a half.

This came from North York's Police. It was to search for a young boy missing in the Welbury area near Northallerton. We got one of our members to the RV very quickly and as the rest of us were approaching the Police informed us that the lad had been found in a neighbouring village alive and well. We were stood down.
There were about 15 of us on this one which lasted an hour.

Ambulance control called the team to Errington woods near Marske to help a crashed mountain biker.The team located the gentleman and asked for the Air Ambulance which landed nearby. We then took the gentleman to the helicopter which then left for James Cook hospital.
We had 12 team members on this call that lasted just over an hour.
9th Jan 2011 20.00hrs
The first call of 2011 came from Cleveland Police. A man in a depressed state had been missing for several hours and the Police had reason to believe he was in the Eston Hills area. They asked us to conduct a search, which we did.
We started our search, then a Team member arriving from Northallerton, remembered spotting a person fitting the description of the missing person walking by the road as he was approaching our RV. We asked the Police to check this out and indeed it was the missing person!!
There were 22 team members on this Incident which lasted just under 2 hours.
December 24th 2300hrs. A gentleman in his fifties had not returned from working in the East Cleveland area on Christmas Eve. He was found collapsed in his car on a remote road between Scaling Dam and Bolby Potash Mine and pronounced dead by the attending Ambulance crew. Our help was requested as the ambulance was stuck in the snow. We assisted in moving the deceased into the ambulance and helping get the Police and Ambulance vehicles present onto to a cleared road. Four Team members were involved for four hours in the early hours of Christmas Day.
December 24th We were asked to help a distric nurse whose car was immobile in the snow. We dispatched a landrover with towrope and quickly got her moving again. One member, with son to assist, involved for 60 minutes.
22nd December at 15-50.
We were asked to help a lady who had fallen in Skelton and the Ambulance was unable to get to her. We found her,put her on our stretcher and sledged her to the High Street in Skelton where we transferred her to the Ambulance.
The Incident lasted an hour and a half and involved 4 team members
December 20th, 1610: We were asked to attend an incident involving a 50 year old Saltburn man who had injured his back whilst sledging. We treated the man on the scene before carrying him down through the gardens to a waiting Ambulance near the Ship Inn. The incident lasted two hours and involved 20 team members.
December 19th 1600hrs: Most of us hadn't even changed out of our call out gear following incident 40 when we were alerted again to go to the aid of a walker who had slipped on the forestry tracks in Guisborough Forest. The 61 year old Guisborough man was walking his dogs with a small group when they all fell. He sustained a head injury was knocked unconsious for a while. The party managed to reach a nearby cottage and called for assistance. Due to the adverse snow conditions the ambulance personel were unable to reach the casualty with out the aid of our off-road vehicles. The injured man was treated at the scene and transported to James Cook University Hospital by one of our Land Rover Ambulances. The rest of the party (and the dogs) were transported to their home by another Team member. 15 were involved in this incident that lasted 1 1/4 hours.
19th December 1300: A 33 year old Marske resident had slipped on an icy path whilst walking in the woods above Marske. She was initially assisted by one of our ex team members who liaiased with the ambulance service and alerted the rest of the Team. 18 Team members responded to the incident that took place about a kilometre from the nearest road access.
The lady was treated on the scene by ambulance paramedics before being evacuated by the Rescue Team on a specialised mountain rescue stretcher. The incident lasted about 2 hours.
December 10th, 1200. The patient from incident 37 was discharged from hospital but the family had no way of returning her home through the snow covered roads. In an exception to our normal Call-Out criteria, one of our Team members in a Land Rover transported her the two miles to her home. The incident lasted 20 minutes and involved one Team member.
Friday 10th December 0850: A District nurse was standed in his car in Hemlington. We dispatched a Team member in a 4 X 4 to assist. The car was soon towed out of the snow drift taking one member an hour.
9th December 1745.
We were asked to help the North East Ambulance Service reach a 93 year old lady who had fallen in her home in an village above Brotton that had been cut off by the snow. We dispatched one of our Team Landrovers with two other 4 x4s as back up and reached the lady. After a period of liaison with the medical srvices she was transported to a nearby hospital for observation. The incident lasted 4 hours and involved 4 team members.
Dec 8th 2010 18.00hrs
We were called to go to the aid of a family in a 4x4 trapped somewhere between Lealholm and Whitby. We sent two Land Rover Defenders to search for the family and discovered them near Houlsyke trapped by deep snow. The family of four and three dogs were from London on holiday and had tried to drive to Whitby following Sat nav directions, which led them into trouble. We drove as near as we could to them and managed to walk a very cold family back to our Rovers. The family were returned to the rented accommodation in Lealholm.
There were 6 team members and four 4x4s on this call which lasted about 4 hours
7 December 09.40
We were called by Ambulance Control to go to the aid of a fallen walker in Saltburn woods. A lady had slipped on the very icy path and down the bank into the trees.
The lady was treated for ankle and spinal injuries before been evacuated on a stretcher with a back up rope on. We then carried the lady along the very slippy path and transferred her to the waiting County Ambulance and onto James Cook Hospital for treatment.
There were 17 team members on this call, which lasted about 1 hour.
4th December 1245:
We were asked by the NEAS ambulance control if we could help an ambulance crew with an injured sledger in Errington Woods near Marske. After a few minutes to clarify in which part of Errington woods the casualty was the Team was mobilised. We were on route when we were stood down as the Great North Air Ambulance had managed to evacuate the injured person to James Cook University Hospital. The Incident lasted 30 minutes and 12 of us were attending.
1st December 1730
We were asked by the North East Ambulance Service if we could help with an injured sledger on the hills above Eston. We had a Land Rover and crew on standby so we could quickly respond to the incident and quickly had team personnel,including a doctor on scene with the Ambulance paramedic. We stabilised the 17 year female casualty and carried her to the Eston Equestian centre and the waiting ambulance. The incident lasted an hour and a half and involved twenty of us.
1st December 0950 Great Ayton. Yorkshire Ambulance Service phoned to ask if we could help evacuate a man from a house in Great Ayton. Due to the appaling weather conditions the deep snow was making it difficult for the ambulance to move. Half a dozen of the Team responded to the limited call out and helped the crew take the man to their ambulance before we helped the ambulance off the estte and escorted it to James Cook University Hospital. The incident lasted just over an hour.
24th November 2100 we were asked to assist NEAS ambulance personel whose vehicle was stuck in the snow. We deployed two landrovers and 4 team members to assist. The incident lasted two hours.

The team were called to assist a female walker suffering dizziness and was unable to walk. She was in the woods above Ingleby Cross. We located her rendered cas care and carried her off to an ambulance in one of our Land Rovers.
There were 17 of us on this call, which lasted an hour.

We were call by YAS to assist with a 61 year old lady from Pickering who had hurt her leg whist walking on the moors near the Lion Inn on Blakey Rigg.
With the assistance of the ambulance paramedic the lady was quickly made comfortable before being carried to one of our Land Rover ambulances and taken to the waiting county ambulance. The incident lasted about 90 minutes and involved 17 of us.
13.00hrs on the 17 October
The team were called by North York's Police to go to the aid of a 32 year old Stockton woman on Roseberry who was exhausted and hypothermic. With the help of the farmer from Airey Holme we located the lady and carried her down to our vehicles and the waiting Air Ambulance. The Air ambulance Dr. checked her over, and after giving her the all clear we transported the casualty and her family back to their car at Newton Under Roseberry.
There were 15 team members on this one which lasted an hour and a quarter.
16-30 on the 9th October
Cleveland Police rang us as they had been asked to put their helicopter up to find two walkers missing on a event perhaps in the Guisborough Moor area of Cleveland's patch.
We got the necessary information about the route of the event from the organizers, which was a long walk of about 20 miles centered on Commondale, we made our RV at White Cross on the moor above Commondale, and we set off. Soon after both Cleveland and North York's police contacted us to say that the walkers had turned up alive and well. We were stood down.
The Incident lasted 30 minutes and would have involved over 15 team members.
04/09/10 2200 hrs: we were called to assist the ambulance service with a young man who had injured his leg whilst walking down from Eston nab on the Saturday evening. After a short while locating the incident site we were able to assist the ambulance paramedic in the treatment of the man before carrying him 100 metres on a mountain rescue stretcher to our landrover and then driving for about a kilometre accross the rough moorland track back to the public road to meet an ambulance. the incident lasted 90 minutes and involved 24 of us.
28th August 2010 14.25.
The team was called by Cleveland Police to go to the Rescue of a fallen climber at High cliff Nab near Guisborough. We were on scene in 10 minutes. The lad had fallen quite a distance and was seriously injured. Along with the Air Ambulance and NEAS Paramedics we gave cas care and carried the lad to the Air Ambulance which had managed to land on top of the crag.
This was an incident where multi agencies were needed, with all working very well together for the sake of the patient
There were 16 of us on this one which lasted an hour and a half.
14.30 on the 26th August
One of our a team members had come across a young lad in Guisborough Woods above Butt Lane who had hurt his lower leg and was unable to walk. They were on a track so one of our Land Rovers was dispatched to transport the lad to a road where his parents picked him up and transported him to hospital for an x ray.
There were 5 of us on this one, which lasted 30 minutes.
22nd August 01-15am
This call came from North Yorkshire Police. Scarborough Team were already out on another incident in the Whitby area so we were asked to cover for them and go to
Castle Howard near Malton to help locate a missing vulnerable.
On our way there the Police contacted us to say that the vulnerable had been located and we were stood down.
There were about 15 of us responding and the incident lasted 45 minutes.
22 august 21-30hrs
The team was put on Standby to go and help Scarborough Team with a search in the Selby area for a missing vulnerable female. We were stood down the next morning at
07-00.
9th August 07.00hrs
This call came from Scarborough Team. It was to help them search for a missing female in the Kirby Moorside area. They had been out all night and wanted our assistance to continue the search. We spent 8 hours on the search before it was reported that she had turned up alive and well in Scarborough. There were 12 Cleveland Team on this call which lasted 9 hours.
July 28th: 1815hrs
We were asked by the Great North Air Ambulance to assist with the evacuation of a climber who had fallen whilst climbing at the Wainstones crags above Great Broughton. As we reached the incident site a Sea-King from RAF Leaconfield arrived and we assisted as the injured climber was winched to safety and flown to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.
The incident lasted 2 hours and involved about 20 of us.
July 5th 2010:1945 hrs. We were asked by Whitby police to help them locate a 41 year old Sandsend man who had not been seen for over 24 hours. He was known to have a medical condition and was believed to be camping in the forrested area to the west of Sandsend. As the area was on our operational boundary with Scarborough and Ryedale MRT we asked them for assistance in this search. The missing man was located and we stood down about 2230hrs.
24 CSRT and 21 SRMRT members were involved in the search.
July 1st 2010: 1300hrs. We were alerted by Yorkshire Air Ambulance about a 14year old girl on a Duke of Edinburghs'expedition who was having an astmha attack on the Cleveland Way. Her exact location was unclear until the girl's party was contacted via their mobile phone and their route worked out. The Team and the Yorkshire ambulance personell were then dispatched to the Carlton Bank area where the girl was quickly located and evactuated by ambulance. As we were wrapping this incident up we were informed about a second casualty from the same school who had sustained a head injury. He was also quickly dealt with and the Team stood down once we were happy all the members of all the parties were accounted for. 20 Team members were involved for 3 hours.
27th June 1830hrs
The Team was alerted by N Yorks police after concerns were raised about a 42 year old Billingham man who was reported as been in a distressed state and whose car had been found in the car park at Clay Bank.
In a joint operation with the police forces from Cleveland and North Yorkshire, which also involved aerial support and dog units, 25 members of the Team searched the surrounding forest and moorland tracks.
The search was stood down at midnight with plans to restart in daylight with additional personnel from Scarborough and Teesdale Teams as well as SARDA search and rescue dogs.
The Search was called off at 0600 after the missing man had walked back into the car park, cold and damp but well.
28th June 1400hrs: The Team were present at the annual Boys Brigade Walk when
a mother of one of the competitors collapsed. She was treated at the scene by Team first aiders until a county ambulance arrived.
26th June 2010: Whitby Police contacted the Team as they were concerned about a walker who was overdue. As the Team was being mobilized we were stood down as he turned up safe and well.
26th June 2010: 1600hrs. The Team was asked by Yorkshire Ambulance to help with an incident where two offroad motorcyclists had collided in the open land to the south of Brotton. As the team vehicles were on route we were stood down as the casualties had been transported by the Air Ambulance.
13th June. 21-30hrs
North York’s Police called us to search in the Sheep wash area for a missing 85 year old walker. We searched the forestry around the reservoir, called in a SARDA dog from Swaledale Team, used a police dog and called in the fire service for a search of the reservoir. We also called in Scarborough and Swaledale Team to arrive at first light on the 14th bearing in mind the age of the missing person.
At 01-30 one of our search parties made a find on a track just outside the forestry. The walker had sustained minor head injuries and we evacuated him off the hill to a County Ambulance. A large search in which many different agencies co-operated very well.
There were 23 of Cleveland on this search which lasted four and a half hours.
12.50 6th June
While we were at Guisborough Town Fair a call came from the Ambulance Service and was to go to the rescue of a crashed mountain biker in the Guisborough Woods area. We dispatched a Land Rover from the Fair with 5 on board, located the biker, gave some cas care and handed him over to the County Ambulance. There were 5 of us on this one which lasted 19 minutes.
15-15 5th June
We were called to help look for a despondent in the Snilesworth area between Osmotherley and Hawnby. North York's Police had found the person's car and asked us to search the moor near to it. On our way there we were advised that a local farmer had spotted the person near to his farm and with the help of the Police escorted him off the moor. All was well and we were stood down.
The Incident lasted an hour with 14 of us responding.
30 May 2010 04.30 hrs
We were called this time to help Scarborough Team search for a missing Lyke Wake Walker in the Eller beck area near Goathland. On route to the RV we got the message from Scarborough that the man had turned up alive and well. He had become disorientated in the dense hill fog and had waited until it had lifted to retrace his steps to Ellerbeck.
There were 14 team members responding and the incident lasted about 1 hour.
10th May; 2000hrs.
The Team were asked to assist North Eastern Ambulance Personnel with the evacuation of a young lady who had fallen and injured her leg in open land about a kilometre from the Country Park car park at Flatts Lane. The Team managed to reach the incident site in their four wheel drive vehicles and transported the injured girl to the waiting ambulance. The incident lasted about an hour and involved 20 Team personnel.
16th April 10-30
Redcar Police called us to investigate something for them. A walker had reported seeing a red object half hidden in forestry near High cliff Nab, which could have been the canopy of a hang glider. We sent a Rover and 2 personnel to investigate. They found a freshly cut pile of wood glistening in the sunshine. This was a false alarm with good intent.
There were 2 team members involved which lasted for an hour.
13-00 on Monday 22nd March.
We were called to go the assistance of a lady in the High Cliff area near Guisborough, who had broken her ankle on descent from High Cliff. With the aid of the Air Ambulance we carried the lady about 80 yards over rough ground to the chopper.
The Incident lasted about 30 minutes.
8th march 2010 17.25
This came from Ambulance control (NEAS)
and was to go to the rescue of a young girl in a wooded area near Liverton
Mines. the young lady had sustained lower leg injuries and was unable to walk. The Cleveland Police chopper with 3 of us on board spotted her from the air.The chopper then landed in a field about a quarter of a mile away, and our advanced party went to the casualty. The terrain however precluded a vertical raise and a chopper winch, so we had a long and arduous carry to the County Ambulance.
There were 20 of us on this one which lasted four and a half hours.
00-25 on the 8th March
This call came from North York's Police. It was to search for a missing vulnerable young man in the Northallerton area. We spent 6 hours searching with negative result.
Later the same day we learnt that the young man had turned up alive and well.
There were 18 of us on this one which lasted all night.
5th March 2010 at 10.40hrs
The team were called by NEAS to go to the Rescue of a walker who had fallen and hurt his back. We located the walker in the woods above Hutton Village and evacuated him to the waiting Air Ambulance.
There were 19 team members including 2 doctors on this call which lasted about 1 hour 10 mins.
13.10hrs 26th January
This came at from NEAS Ambulance Control, and was to locate and rescue a fallen horse rider in the Upleatham area. We located the rider and carried her to the Police chopper
which took her to James Cook.
There were 17 of us on this incident, which lasted one hour.
09.45 13 Jan 2010
We were called by Teesdale team to help search for a missing fisherman. Teesdale were out searching the day before along with the Coastguard and a RAF Seaking helicopter. We searched all day with a negative result.

This call came from NEAS to help a patient in New Marske to which the ambulance could not get to.
Heavy snow, freezing conditions, and road chaos all contributed in the ambulance asking for our assistance
We located the patient in a house in New Marske and transported them to the Ambulance.
There were 4 team members involved for about one hour.
2nd January 14.00 hrs
The first call-out of 2010 came from the North East Ambulance Service for a snow bound patient at home in Skelton who needed to be taken to hospital.
There were 3 team members on this limited Call Out which lasted about 45 minutes.
25 Dec 11-45.
The call this time came from York Ambulance Control who asked us to assist in moving a suspected heart attack from a remote
snow bound farm house in Bilsdale to their Ambulance. We did a limited Call Out with our two Land Rovers to complete the task with
the help of a local farmer.
There were 10 of us on this call with the rest of the team on stand by ready to attend if needed The Incident lasted an hour.
18th Dec 00-45.
This call came from York Ambulance Control.
We were asked to help transfer a patient with acute abdominal pain to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. Their Ambulance was stuck in snow in Borrowby and the patient was in Cowesby. We met the Ambulance and took its Paramedic with us to Cowesby and, after treatment, the patient was transferred to the Hospital in our Land Rover.
There were 2 team members on this one which lasted 4 hours.
We have been put on standby by York Ambulance Control to back up their crews because of the severe weather.
On the way back from incident no 41 in the woods team members came across a road crash that had just happened. Team members rendered first aid to the young lady, called an ambulance and helped control traffic at a busy junction.
There were 11 team members for about 1 hour.
16 Dec 10.44am
The team were called this time by Ambulance control to help a fallen horse rider in Guisborough woods. We located the young lady and carried her down to Christmas tree car park.
We transferred her to the waiting Air Ambulance that took her to hospital for treatment.
There were 19 team members on this call that lasted about 1 hour 15 mins.
15.00 hrs 18 Nov
The team were called to the Loftus area to help a gentleman who had slipped and fallen while walking his dog in the woods. The team assisted the ambulance crew in evacuating the man to the waiting ambulance after it was discovered he had serious lower leg injuries. The gentleman was then taken to hospital for further treatment.
There were 15 team members on this call that lasted approx 1.5 hours.
This was our 40th call this year making it the busiest year in our long history which goes back over 40 years.
7th November.05-00hrs
This call came from North York's Police. It was to look for a missing elderly man from Newby Wiske. He had gone missing in the middle of the night from his home. The Police chopper had been looking but had not turned anything up, but after about an hour of searching the man was found alive and cold in a hedge back not to far from his home.
Scarborough Team and 2 SARDA dogs were on way to help us, but the early find
meant we could stand them down.
There were 18 team members involved for 2 hours.
27 Oct 23.00hrs
The team were called to look for a missing fell runner in the bank foot farm area. The runner had been taking part in a night nav training run and had become disorientated. The team along with other runners and the Cleveland Police helicopter soon found the man and he was escorted down to safety.
There were 19 team members on this call that lasted approx 2 hours.
24 Oct 08.00hrs
The team were first called by the police to search for a missing vulnerable male possibly in the Guisborough woods/moors area. We were assembling a search pattern when we received a call from the Ambulance service to go to the help of a fallen mountain biker in approx the same area. As it turns out the missing vulnerable and the mountain biker are one in the same. The missing male was found by some mountain bikers in the woods who called 999 after the police call had already been made. At the end of the day the gentleman was put in the police helicopter and taken to James Cook hospital to be checked out.
There were 15 team members on this call which lasted approx 1 ½ hours.
21 Oct 09.00hrs
We were again asked by Teesdale team to help in the ongoing search for the missing gentleman in the Durham area(incident 35). The search area has spread, but again we came up with a negative result.
There were 10 Cleveland team members on this call that lasted approx 6 hours.
On Saturday 17th October we were involved in a NESRA callout to assist Teesdale Team in the search for a 89 year old man missing from his home in Ferryhill,Durham. The call came at 1800 hrs with 22 of the Team responding. We searched the open spaces around Ferryhill with other teams from the NorthEast with out sucess until we were stood down at about 0100 hours on Sunday morning.
6th October 19.15hrs
We were called by the police to help in locating a missing vunerable male somewhere near Carlton bank. The 37 year old mans had been found earlier and was causing some distress to his family. The police were keen to find him ASAP. We searched the surrounding area, which now had low visibility due to darkness and low cloud and one of our parties found the gentleman. He was assessed by the teams Doctor and brought down to the warmth and shelter and was handed over to the ambulance crew.
There were 22 team members on this call that lasted approx 2 hours.
24 Sept 2009 14.45 hrs
Cleveland Police called us to search for an elderly lady who had been involved in a low impact traffic accident. After the accident she had wandered off in the direction of Ormesby Hall and the Police were concerned for her safety. We cleared the wooded areas within the Ormesby Hall area with negative result. There were 17team members on this incident which lasted 3 hours.
8 Sept 2009 11.15 am
We were called to an incident in the valley gardens at Saltburn. A gentleman out walking with his dog had followed the dog over an edge and fallen down a steep slope sufferring serious injuries. A county ambulance along with the air ambulance was in attendance. An R.A.F. Sea king helicopter was called for as the gentleman needed to be winched out of a difficult area, we moved the gentleman to a more suitable area. He was taken to James Cook hospital for treatment.
This was yet another incident where multiple agencies Rescue Team, Police, Ambulance, Air Ambulance and RAF all worked very well together for the benefit of the injured party.
There were 15 team members on this call that lasted about 1 ½ hrs.

2nd September 10.00am
The team were called by Cleveland Police to search for a believed vulnerable male in
the Lazenby area. After a couple of hours searching we located him alive and
well near Eston Nab. After sorting out logistics we were stood down.
The Incident lasted 3 and a half hours and 32 of Cleveland Team attended, plus
a SARDA dog from Swaledale Team.

Teesdale team called for our assistance to help in the search for a missing 41-year-old male in the Teesdale area. The man had been missing since 16.00hrs on Sunday.
As team members were on route we received a call to stand down.
There were 15 team members on the way. The incident lasted about 45 minuets.
15 August 02.00am
The call this time came from Scarborough team who were looking for a missing vulnerable young female somewhere in the Kirby Moorside area.
Team members set off but were interrupted with a call saying that they had found the young girl safe and well and we could stand down.
There were 15 team members on the way. The incident lasted about 1½ hours.
30 July 12.30pm
The team were this time called by ambulance control to go to the aid of a gentleman having difficulties on Roseberry Topping. The 82-year-old gentleman from the Hull area had always wanted to go to the top of Roseberry and was about half way up when he started to struggle. The ambulance crew called the Air ambulance at the same time as us although they couldn’t land next to the gentleman they landed near. We helped him to the chopper, which flew him down to the waiting county ambulance where he was reunited with his family.
There were 16 team members on this call, which lasted about 1 hour.
22.40 hrs 26 July.
The team were called this time by North Yorks Police to help look for a missing 11-year-old.
The young boy had walked out of the family home and had not returned causing a great worry for his family who had called the Police. The young lad then turned up at the local public house; the Police stood the team down.
There were 15 team members responding initially with other members on the way. This lasted about 45 mins.
22.20 hrs 25 July.
We were called this time by ambulance control to go to the aid of a young female in the woods near Upleatham village. It appears the girl had fallen and sustained injuries which put her into difficulties. The team helped the girl to the waiting ambulance where she was then taken to hospital.Our Vice President over from Austria for a couple of days was even drafted to help on this call out.
There were 15 team members on this call that lasted about one and half-hours.
23 July 16.20 hrs
The team were called by the Police to search for a missing vulnerable male. He was thought to be somewhere in the Eston hills area. As the team arrived the Police and Ambulance had located the man. We helped escort him down from the hills.
There were about 15 team members on this call that lasted about 1 hour.
We were called at 20-40 on the 14 th July by NEAS Ambulance Control to go to the rescue of a crashed mountain biker on Newton Moor above Hutton Village. We located the biker, administered casualty care and called for an RAF Sea King to take the casualty to James Cook Hospital. We gather he is recovering OK. There were 23 of us on this Incident which lasted an hour and 50 minutes.
We were called at 17-05 on the 11th July by Cleveland Police to help rescue a young lad crag fast on Eston Nab. This we did along with the Fire Rescue service. The Incident lasted 55 minutes and there were 16 of us who responded.

This came from Ambulance Control on the 4th July at 10-54. A lady had fallen over High Cliff Nab and we were asked to assist. This was a fatality and we subsequently assisted Cleveland Police with the evacuation of the body. There were 20 of us on this one which lasted three and a half hours.

Friday 3rd July
This came from York Police at 13-51. A runner on Roseberry had come across an elderly man equipped for a summer stroll. He was not in trouble, but soon after the runner left the man there came an horrendous rainstorm, and she became concerned for his safety. She rang the Police whoin turn asked our advice. We conducted with two Team members an investigation of the Roseberry tracks with negative result. There were 2 on this Incident which lasted 2 hours.
29 June 18.40 hrs
Ambulance Control (NEAS) called us to help with the rescue of a crashed mountain biker. The Incident was in Errington Woods, New Marske. On the way there we were informed by Ambulance control that the Police chopper was also attending. The young man had suffered injuries that required him to be evacuated on a stretcher. He was about 200m into the wood, Team members and ambulance crew worked together to evacuate him to the waiting police helicopter. The Chopper then delivered the casualty to James Cook. There were 21 of us who responded and the Incident lasted just over an hour.

We were called by North York's Police at 07-55 on the 27th June to help locate a missing vulnerable in the Gt Ayton area. The Team was initially put on standby whilst further inquiries were being made and this became a search call out at 09-00. As we were about to deploy the Police informed us that the missing person had turned up at home alive and well and we were stood down. There were 21 of us who responded and the Incident lasted about two and a half hours.
23 June 21.20 hrs
We were called by Ambulance Control to assist an Ambulance Crew with an injured mountain biker in the woods. The injured man managed to walk off the hill with the assistance of the Ambulance Crew. Team members stayed on site until all was clear. There were 6 of us at the incident site with 10 more members on the way when we were stood down. The incident lasted for 55 mins.
May 24th
The Rescue call came at 15-30 from Ambulance Control
(NEAS) to go to the rescue of a crashed mountain biker somewhere on Eston
Hills. We made the RV bottom of Flatts Lane initially as we were uncertain
of the whereabouts of the casualty. Once we had pinpointed him we moved our
RV, and made a short carry to the County Ambulance. There were 14 who
responded with more on the way. The Incident lasted an hour and a half.
May 12th 20.45hrs
The Team was called to go to the aid of a climber who had fallen whilst climbing at Raven's Scar, one of the crags above Great Broughton. The 42 year old Durham man had fallen 3 or 4 metres and sustained a lower leg injury. Members of his climbing party carried him down to the nearby forestry track where he was met by members of the Team in a LandRover. His injuries were treated by a Team doctor before the man was placed on our Bell Stretcher and carried for about a mile to a waiting ambulance.
There were 12 team members on this incident which lasted about 90 minutes.

18 April 11.45 hrs
We were called by Ambulance control to assist the Air ambulance and county Ambulance
to help a fallen 42 year old male mountain biker in the woods. The ambulance crews were able to deal with him without our assistance and the man was airlifted to hospital
There were 4 of us at the incident site with 12 more members on the way when we were stood down.The incident lasted about 30 mins.
6 April 21.00hrs
The team were called by North Yorks police to help in locating a missing 47-year-old female from the Northallerton area. Working on extra information we relocated the search to Cod Beck. As well as Cleveland team we were helped by four search dogs and handlers from Swaledale and Teesdale teams, a RAF Sea-king helicopter and members from the RAF Leeming team. The teams searched throughout the night without turning anything up. We called the other teams from NESRA to help continue the search through the morning when a find was made. The lady was then transferred to a county ambulance and taken to hospital.
There were 18 Cleveland team members, 13 RAF Leeming team members and 4 dog handlers along with a sea king helicopter and NY Police on this call, which lasted about 12 hours.
5 April 12.45 hrs
The team were asked to go to the aid of a fallen horse rider in Guisborough Woods. Some team members were already in the area as it was the Assessment Day for new members who were been put through their paces by the teams training officer and a hand full of other experienced members. They were dispatched along with 4 local Team members to help. They escorted the injured lady off the hill to Cleveland Police chopper who evacuated her to James Cook.
They were 7 team members on this call out which lasted about 50 mins.

We were asked by Police to continue in the search for the missing York female.

We were called by North York's Police to help in the ongoing search for a missing female in York. Along with other NESRA teams we searched areas in and around York

15 March 05.30hrs
The call came from NESRA (Teesdale) to
go to a place called Kirkbridge SouthWest of Darlington. We and several
Other NESRA Teams + Kirkby Stephen Team and a Sea King were searching for 2
missing young brothers (10 & 11) They had gone missing on the Saturday
afternoon. A find was made by MR about an hour into the search, both alive
and well. There were 33 of us on this one which lasted 3 and a half-hours.
23 Feb 23.30hrs
We were called by the Police to help in locating a vulnerable male somewhere in then Sutton bank area. It was indicated that he had gone into the woods and so the team were called. The police found the person before we were needed and therefore the team were stood down. The incident lasted about 50 mins.
20 Feb 10.00hrs
Following on from the previous evening it was decided to start again in daylight.
Scarborough team were asked to assist with numbers Teesdale Team were put on stand by for 11 0`clock. A search dog from Scarborough was also to be used. The lady turned up safe and well and we were stood down.
There were 12 members from Cleveland team along with 9 members and a search dog from Scarborough on this call, which lasted about 1 hour.
20 Feb 01.15 hrs
The team were called by Police to help search for a missing vunerable 29-year-old female thought to be in the Roseberry Topping area. Working along with the Police we searched through the night. A RAF Sea King helicopter was deployed to help using night vision and thermal imaging cameras. After five hours we hadn’t turned anything up.
There were 20 team members on this call, which lasted about 5 hours.
12 Feb 14.40 hrs
Two walkers became disorientated in blizzards somewhere in the Round hill area up from Clay bank car park. They called 999 spoke to the Police and asked for assistance from Mountain Rescue. The Police called the team to go to their aid. We tried to ring the couple on there mobile with no luck but the team leader persevered and eventually got through to them. After speaking to them we had a pretty reasonable idea which area they were in. Three hill parties of four were sent to cover the area in conditions involving 3-foot snowdrifts. After about 20-25 mins one of the parties found the walkers unharmed. They then escorted the walkers down.
There were 15 team members on this call, which lasted about 1 hour.
Incident no.6 Clay bank (Assist)
Following on from the last incident the team were travelling down the clay bank road when they came across an articulated lorry having difficulties with the weather conditions. The lorry could not move any further up the road and had decided to reverse back down. The team went ahead and closed the road to other road users whilst this was going on. We informed the police who were happy with our actions. The lorry managed to get down safely and we opened the road again.
8 Feb 15.15 hrs.
The team were called by Cleveland ambulance control to go to the aid of a fallen female walker in the Pinchinthorpe area of Guisborough woods. Conditions on the ground were very hazardous due to ice and the severity of the slope. The lady had suffered leg injuries that would require her to be carried out to the waiting air ambulance that had been called to speed up the transfer to hospital.
Ambulance crews, Two Community officers, and Air the ambulance crew worked alongside our team members to evacuate the lady to the helicopter and on to hospital for treatment. Another good example of different agencies all working together to achieve one aim which is to ensure a swift and smooth evacuation to medical care.
There were 20 team members on this call out which lasted approx. 45 mins.

Teesdale team called us with a request to help look for a missing vunerable male in the Easington Colliery area. After an extensive search the gentleman was picked up by one of the air support units using a thermal imaging camera. He was picked up and taken to hospital for treatment.
There were 16 Cleveland team members on this call out which lasted approx 4 hours.
Jan 20th 2009 04.30 hrs
The team were called to help Teesdale Team search for a Pennine Way
walker missing since Sunday evening. Team members had to search through deep snow
The gentleman was eventually spotted in his tent by the searching helicopter.
He was picked up safe and well and checked over.
There were 11 Cleveland team members on this call out which lasted 4 45 mins.
Jan 6th 2009 12.45
A lady had slipped and injured her leg and arm on an icy slope beneath Sutton Bank glider station.
The rescue was a multi-agency response including North York’s ambulance service, CSRT and a RAF Sea King. 12
Team members responded to the call out and were on stand-by to deploy their specialist rope rescue equipment.
In the event the winch from the RAF sea king was successful and they took the lady to hospital.
This is the first incident of the New Year for us and demonstrated how well different emergency services can work together for the benefit of the casualty.
There were 12 team members on this call out which lasted approx. 50 mins
The team was called in to help Teesdale team who had been searching the previous day for a missing 81-year-old male. The teams were searching an area north of Stanhope in County Durham. The missing gentleman was found by a member of the public and treated with the assistance of one of our team’s cas-carers. The gentleman was then transferred to the Cleveland police helicopter and flown to James Cook hospital.
There were 9 members from Cleveland team and the incident lasted about 3 hours.
Called by York
Ambulance control to go to an address in Glaisdale Village to
rescue a youth with a broken leg. Control had sent two Ambulances but they had
both got stuck in the snow. We deployed two 4x4 vehicles but were soon stood down as control rang to indicate that a local farmer had ploughed the road out and was escorting the Ambulance out of the village.
There were 4 team members responding and the incident lasted 30 mins.
We were called by York Ambulance Control to go to the aid of a fallen mountain biker somewhere near the glider station. The team were on a training exercise close by and were quick to respond. An exact location was not given but we established contact with the party on the hill and they gave us a description of the location so we could work out where they were. The casualty was dealt with and handed over to the ambulance crew. There were 23 members at this call, which lasted about 50 mins.
The Team were called to help in the evacuation of a male who had suffered leg injuries
in the Eston Hills area. After a brief search the gentleman was found, treated and evacuated using the Air Ambulance. This was another example of various agencies working well together to achieve the best result that is the well being of the casualty.
There were 10 team members present on this call, which lasted about 1 hour.
Two walkers came upon a body in the boulder field under Roseberry Topping. The police and ambulance were called who asked for the team’s assistance in the recovery. After initial investigations the team carried the body off the hill.
There were 12 team members on this call, which lasted approx. 2 ½ hrs.
The Team along with a County Ambulance and the Air Ambulance were called by Control to go to the aid of a fallen horse rider in Guisborough woods.The young lady had been riding through the woods with others when the horse slipped and threw the rider. The helicopter had managed to land on the path in the woods and so was only about 50m away. The young lady was dealt with by the air crew's Doctor. We helped evacuate to the aircraft.
There were 14 members on the call with more on the way who were held back just in case and the incident lasted 55 mins.
Cleveland team were called to a rural search near Malton. This is not our normal area but Scarborough teams patch but with Scarborough busy on another shout our assistance was required. We were asked to help locate a possible young vulnerable male who had left the family home at approx. 7.45 in the morning stating grave intentions. We called in the dog handler from Swaledale team “dog Rich”. The police picked up the youth on the road on his way back home confused but thankfully unharmed. The team was stood down at approx. 15.50hrs.
There were about 10 Cleveland team members present and the incident lasted about 1-½ hours.
Saturday 20 September 2008
Nine of our Team members were on a joint training exercise with RAF Leeming Mountain Rescue Team at Carlton Bank, working alongside an ITN news film crew. One of the motorised Paragliders that were flying in the area got into difficulties and the team saw him make a rapid, uncontrolled descent and hit the ground. Team members were immediately despatched to the scene and the casualty was treated for suspected spinal injuries by one of the team’s Advanced Mountain Rescue Casualty Carers and an Air Ambulance was called. On arrival of the helicopter the team handed over casualty-care to the Paramedic and HeliMed Doctor and helped load him onboard the aircraft, which then quickly transported the casualty to hospital
The whole incident from seeing the man crash to him leaving the incident site by helicopter took no more than about 30 minutes
The call came from North York's Police.
They had had a call from someone indicating that they were going to harm themselves in the Roseberry Topping area. We made a full search of Roseberry and the areas around, taking over 4 hours to do this, but came up with negative results. There were 22 of us on this Incident which lasted 4 and a half hours.
Incident 27
This time the call came from Cleveland Police to help them find a missing vulnerable whose mobile phone was in the Guisborough area.
Team members left the training at Catterick and returned to the Cleveland area. The missing person was from Stafford, and supposedly on
his way to Bedford! After a lot of background work by the Police and
ourselves and some preliminary searching in the Guisborough area the missing
person was tracked down to a pub in Guisborough where he had booked
overnight accommodation.
The Team was stood down at 22:50. There were 30 Team members on this incident.
Incident 26.
A call from North Yorkshire Police to search for 2 female walkers who had called 999 and stated that they were lost in fog, trying to get back to Clay Bank where they had left their car. The call out officer mobilized the team, who were training at Catterick, and rang round the members available locally.
Soon after, the Police rang to say that the fog had lifted and the walkers had got their bearings. However they were still on the moor and the Police were not happy until they knew the walkers had returned to their car. Our call out officer agreed to go and find the car and stay with it until the walkers returned. A short time later, the Police rang to say that the walkers were on a road and were confident of getting back to Clay Bank.
He stood himself down! The Incident lasted about 30 minutes.
Incident 25,
The team were called by York ambulance control at 15-30.It was to assist in the
assessment and evacuation of a young walker with a broken ankle below
Falconer's seat Carlton Bank. We located, treated and carried the youth to
our Rover and then transported him to the waiting county Ambulance which was waiting at Lord Stones cafe. There were 10 team members at the Incident, which lasted about 2 hours.
A Call came from Teesdale Team initially requesting availability/numbers. We were asked to go at about 14-00 to assist in a search near West Auckland, but on our way there the missing person turned up and we were stood down.
Ten responded from Cleveland Team.
Busy week for The Rescue Team with 5 call outs in 8 days.
The team were called by N.E.A.S. (North-East Ambulance Service) to help a 67-year-old male diabetic who was suffering difficulties in the Hanging Stone area near Hutton village in Guisborough woods. The North East Air Ambulance plus a county ambulance were called but due to local knowledge from the control desk it was felt that the helicopter probably wouldn’t be able to land and so we were also called at the same time to assist. The gentleman was with his grandson who gave him a mars bar to keep his sugar levels topped up until help could arrive. The mars bar did wonders which enabled him to walk down the track to our Land Rover whereupon we transferred him to the county ambulance crew who then dealt with the gentleman. This was a very good call out in the sense that there were more than one authority but all working well together as a team. There were 14 Team members on this call out which lasted about 1-hour.
Incident number 22
Scarborough team called us for assistance in looking for a missing vulnerable 36 year female. The lady in question had been missing since early on Monday and the family became worried for her safety They called the police who in turn called Scarborough MRT as it was in the Kirby Moorside area. The lady was found unharmed but slightly distressed and was persuaded to go along with team members where she could receive help and support. There were 15 Cleveland team members on this call lasting about 3 ½ hours.
Following on from Sundays search a hand full of team members continued to
search throughout the morning using 4x4 vehicles. North Yorkshire police contacted the team later in the morning to say that they had found the person we were looking for. Unfortunately the find was fatal .The police asked the team to help recover the casualty.There were 6 team members in attendance which lasted about 5.5hrs.
Cleveland Police called the team to help in locating a 66 year old man from the
Boosbeck area. The gentleman along with a small Jack Russell dog had set out to complete a circular walk taking in various parts of the North Yorks moors including Danby, Kildale and Roseberry Topping. The gentleman failed to make a rendezvous with friends on the evening and had not been seen since 11.30 on the Sat morning. The search started at about 17.00hrs with 26 Cleveland team members in attendance. Scarborough team were called along with two search dogs and handlers.The police helicopter provided assistance when the daylight started to fail. The team was stood down in the early hours of Sunday
morning. There were 37 team members from both Cleveland and Scarborough and two
search dogs. The incident lasted about 8.5 hrs.
North Yorkshire police called the team to help in locating a missing 41 year old in the Northallerton area. The lady had not been seen since 08.30 in the morning and the family were concerned for her health, as the lady was possibly a missing vunerable. Team members turned up and a search was organised. The lady was found safe and well in about "7 mins" and the team were stood down.the whole incident from call out to stand down was about 50 mins. There were 20 team members in attendance.
The team were called by Cleveland Police to help in looking for a despondent male in the Gribdale Gate area.The call came just before midnight and the person was found some 2 1/2 hrs later. The ambulance took him to hospital to be checked out.
The incident lasted about 3 hrs and there were 18 team members present.
The team were called by ambulance control to go to the aid of a female 40 year old mountain biker somewhere in Guisborough woods.The ambulance crew were already on scene and directed the team into the Hutton Lowcross area of the wood.The lady had suffered lower leg injuries after coming into contact with the pedals. As it was a simple short carry out to the county ambulance,limited numbers were required and there were 9 team members attending with the rest of the team on stand by. the incident lasted approx 1 hour.
The team were called by North Yorks police to help with a fallen mountain biker.The area given was described as been between Bloworth Crossing and Urra moor.The casualties mobile number was obtained but with signals on the moor not very good all we could get was the answerphone. A team rover was sent up Ingleby Incline.Although communications were difficult because of the terrain a relay was set up which solved the problem and the casualty was found.A 59 year old man from Yarm was found with a quite extensively damaged helmet and head injuries although it could have been a lot worse without the helmet.He was evacuated by team rover down to the county ambulance.23 team members attended which lasted 1 1/2 hrs.
The team help out and support the Boys Brigade annual Cleveland Hike. This is a competition for young people although open to all which tests their fitness ,navigation skills and the ability to look after themselves.The teams earn points for speed and the ability to solve problems and carry out fitness tests.This year the team helped out with the usual sore feet with some minor surgery performed on some very large blisters,transporting competitors with ankle injuries and a small search was launched when concerns for a well overdue party. The party were found alive and well although very tired after listening to some local "advice" on there destination which sent them the wrong way.
The team were called by Ambulance Control to help with a fallen walker on the sea cliffs south of Staithes. The lady had fallen on wet grass while descending and suffered a lower leg injury. We worked alongside Ambulance Paramedics and evacuated the lady off the hill and down to the county ambulance. there were 25 members on this call out which lasted approx 1 1/2 hours.
North Yorks Police asked for our help in looking for a 23 year old who had failed to return home overnight in the Hinderwell area. We worked alongside the Coastguards, an RAF Sea King chopper and Scarborough Team, and the youth was turned up alive and well after about an hour and a half searching.There were 17 members from Cleveland and about 12 from Scarborough Team who responded to this Incident. The Incident lasted 2 hours.
We were called by the police to Search for believed crashed para glider possibly seen somewhere up on Carlton Bank. We Searched for 3 and a half hours, found a large white dome tent that was going walkabouts in strong winds. we presumed this is what had been seen.
this was a False alarm but with good intent. 20 members from Cleveland team attended
The team were called to Search for a missing vulnerable male in the Chop Gate/Bilsdale area. We spent 7 hours searching with 2 SARDA dogs,members from
Scarborough Team and a RAF Sea King helicopter . He was Found alive and well. 18 members from Cleveland attended.
A call from Swaledale Team to help in a search starting the following morning.
A missing vulnerable in the Middleton Tyas area was the subject of the Incident.
We spent 7 ½ hours searching along with Swaledale and Teesdale teams, which tragically ended in a fatal find. There were 25 members of Cleveland team involved.
Following straight on after last incident a Call from Cleveland Police. A dog was crag fast in the Highcliff Nab area and
the Police asked us to help recover the dog. This we did with 15
responding, the Incident lasting an hour and a half. Dog alive and well.
Reports of cries for help had been reported in the Rudland Rigg area and the
Police asked us to investigate. Along with the Sea King from Leconfield we
searched for over four hours with negative result. There were 22 of us on
this Incident. False alarm with good intent.
Team called to assist 4 lost walkers on a challenge event. All the group were found safe and well but very tired, and returned to the finish point by vehicle. fifteen team members involved for one hour and thirty minutes.
Team called to assist the county ambulance in the rescue of a walker who had fallen and broken her rist, the lady had an additional medical condition that required a rapid evacuation, the team assisted in an evacuation via sea king helicopter. there was twenty five team members involved and additional support from NESRA team members who were on there advanced casualty care course in Carlton, all members were involved for one hour and ten minutes.
Team called to assist county ambulance in a rescue of a young man who had hit a tree whilst on his mountain bike. The young man was located and treated prior to evacuation. He was carried out by stretcher to the Air Ambulance and transported to James Cook Hospital. There were fifteen team members involved for two hours twenty minutes.

Team called to assist county ambulance in a rescue of a young lad who had fallen from a tree. The young person was located and treated prior to evacuation. He was carried out by stretcher to the Cleveland Police helicopter and transported to James Cook Hospital. There was twenty two team members involved for one hour twenty minutes.
The team was called at 12.20hrs to rescue a mountain biker from the Guisbrough woods area. The biker was with a group and because of the nature of the fall we treated for a suspected spinal injury. The young lad was evacuated by stretcher and then taken to James Cook by Air ambulance. There were 20 team members involved for one hour and twenty minutes. The team was called at 14.15hrs to rescue a lady that had slipped over and broken her ankle. The lady was positioned at the top of a steep slope. There were 23 team members involved for one hour.
The team was called to assist The North East Ambulance service in East Cleveland and North Yorkshire whilst the weather conditions were classed as extreme because of snow. We dealt with 4 Incidents involving transporting patients to James Cook. Both of our Rovers plus two personal 4x4 vehicles were involved, the latter two as back up. The ‘Incidents’ lasted four and a half hours and involved nine team members.
Team called to assist Cleveland Police in the investigation of a motorcycle that had been discovered over the edge of a rock face. A search of the rock face and the local area was made and nothing else was found, the motorcycle was identified as stolen. Twenty team members involved for two hours thiry minutes.
Team called to search for a lost walker from a group of 3 walkers. The missing man turned up safe and well at his car 4 hours late and very tired. seventeen team members involved for one hour and twenty minutes.
Team called to assist Cleveland Police in investigation of a ruck sac and tent outside a disused mine drift in Guisborough Woods. A rapid search of the mine was conducted but nothing found. Eighteen team members involved for sixty minutes.
Team called to assist North Yorkshire Police in rescuing a Jack Russel dog who had fallen on to a ledge on the rock face at Sutton Bank. On arrival the dog had been able to scramble its way back up to safety. There were five team members involved for one hour thirty minutes.
Team called to assist the County Ambulance in evacuating a young lad who had fallen off his mountain bike and broken his collar bone. The boy was treated and evacuated to the county ambulance. There were twelve team members involved for one hour thirty minutes.
Team called to assist a group of lost young walkers on a hiking event. All the group were found safe and well but very tired, and returned to the finish point by vehicle. Ten team members involved for one hour and twenty minutes.
Team called to assist North Yorkshire Police and the MOD in a continued search for a missing 17 year old soldier who had fallen into a flooded beck on the morning of the 15th June. The soldier had been on exercise and got into difficulty whilst crossing the beck. A body was found at 16.15hrs. Sixteen Cleveland Team members, 4 NESRA teams, SARDA, the international rescue corp, the MOD, RAF Leeming MR and a RAF Search and Rescue Helicopter were involved for ten hours and fifteen minutes.
Team called to assist the County Ambulance in treating and evacuating a twenty eight year old man who had collapsed on Roseberry Topping and was having difficulties with his breathing. The man was treated and assisted to the bottom and returned to his vehicle . There were twelve team members involved for one hour thirty minutes.
Team called to assist North Yorkshire Police in a search for a missing twenty six year old gentleman who was believed to be in a very depressive state. The gentleman was found safe and well at 02.30 hours. Twenty six Cleveland Team members, search dog Toggle, six RAF Leeming team members and a RAF Search and Rescue Helicopter were involved for three hours and fifteen minutes. This was a very efficient result in a very short time due to the collective efforts of all emergency services.
Team called to assist the County Ambulance in treating and evacuating a young person who had fallen from a tree in Guisborough Woods and sustained injuries to the face and a suspected broken nose. The young lad was carried out by stretcher across steep ground to a waiting ambulance. There were twenty team members involved for one hour twenty minutes.
Team called to assist York Ambulance control and Cleveland Police in a search and rescue for a injured young person who had been in contact but did not have a good idea of were he was. The young lad was found safe but with an injuried knee at 15.30 hours. He was treated and evacuated to the county ambulance. 3 Cleveland Team members were involved for fourty five minutes.
Team called to assist North Yorkshire and Cleveland Police in a search for a missing forty year old gentleman who had been missing since Saturday morning. The gentleman was found safe and well at 20.45 hours. Twenty five Cleveland Team members, search dog Toggle, thirteen Teesdale members, two Teesdale search dogs and Cleveland police helicopter were involved for four hours and fifteen minutes, Scarborough and Rydale team and two more search dogs were put on standby for the next day if required.

Team Called to assist Cleveland Police in a search for a missing sixty five year old lady, eighteen team members and search dog Toggle were attending when the lady turned up at a friends house safe and well.
Team called to assist the County Ambulance in treating and evacuating a lady who had fallen over and sustained a suspected lower leg fracture whilst out walking the dog with her partner. There was twenty team members involved for two hours forty five minutes. First team member there within ten minutes of the initial call out.
Team called to assist County Ambulance with the treatment and evacuation of a mountain biker with suspected injuries to his back and arm. The team called in an RAF Helicopter to assist in an evacuation. Twenty three of the team involved for two hours and forty five minutes.
Team called to assist County Ambulance in the treatment and evacuation of a Mountain biker with suspected injuries. Nine of the team were involved for an hour and a half. Air Ambulance evacuated casualty.
Team called to assist Swaledale Team in a search for a Missing vulnerable person. Eleven team members involved for four and a half hours. There was a positive find of the missing person.
Continued search from the day before. No find made in spite of 54 personnel and a total of ten hours and thirty minutes searching. Awaiting further information.
Team called to assist Scarborough Team in a search for a Missing vulnerable person, No find that day so new search areas issued next day. Sixteen team members involved for five hours.
Team called to assist County Ambulance in the treatment and evacuation of a Mountain biker with suspected injuries to neck. The team called a RAF Helicopter to assist in the evacuation. Twenty five members involved for an hour and forty five minutes.
