Two walkers became disorientated in blizzards somewhere in the Round hill area up from Clay bank car park. They called 999 spoke to the Police and asked for assistance from Mountain Rescue. The Police called the team to go to their aid. We tried to ring the couple on there mobile with no luck but the team leader persevered and eventually got through to them. After speaking to them we had a pretty reasonable idea which area they were in. Three hill parties of four were sent to cover the area in conditions involving 3-foot snowdrifts. After about 20-25 mins one of the parties found the walkers unharmed. They then escorted the walkers down.
There were 15 team members on this call, which lasted about 1 hour.
Incident no.6 Clay bank (Assist)
Following on from the last incident the team were travelling down the clay bank road when they came across an articulated lorry having difficulties with the weather conditions. The lorry could not move any further up the road and had decided to reverse back down. The team went ahead and closed the road to other road users whilst this was going on. We informed the police who were happy with our actions. The lorry managed to get down safely and we opened the road again.
