The 11th September 2009 saw a group of enthusiastic cyclists from Serco in Stockton-on-Tees setting out on a sponsored bike ride along the Hadrian's Way Cycle Challenge. The route follows Hadrian's Wall in the Borders from the west coast to the east coast. Not content with just doing the Challenge the group then added another 50 miles down the east coast to finish at Serco's offices in Stockton. They completed the 230 mile journey in 4 days and in doing so raised an astounding £1,315 for the Cleveland Search and Rescue Team Base Appeal. The event was supported by Serco covering any costs incurred to ensure that all money raised in sponsorship by the group went to the Rescue Team.
The whole adventure was a gesture of thanks to the Cleveland Search and Rescue Team because last year one member of the group suffered a serious leg injury whilst riding her mountain bike in Guisborough Woods. The Rescue Team were called and their quick response ensured that the injured biker got to James Cook hospital as quickly as possible. The 11 stitches needed however has not deterred her enthusiasm for cycling.
